Translate Desktop Audio in real-time (Twitch / YouTube / Netflix / Zoom / Discord)
The trick is to route your computer’s sound output into a virtual microphone input and set that as the default mic before opening TalkPersona's live translator page.
Quick summary
- Install a virtual audio device (Windows: VB-Audio VB-CABLE, macOS: BlackHole).
- Set the virtual device as your default microphone before opening the translator.
- Enable “listen”/monitoring so you can still hear audio in speakers/headphones.
- Open the translator and click Start Listen; play your stream/video.
Windows (VB-Audio “VB-CABLE”, free)
Install once
- Download VB-CABLE (search: VB-CABLE download VB-Audio, or directly visit https://vb-audio.com/Cable/ , download the zip file).
- Unzip, Right-click
VBCABLE_Setup_x64.exe → Run as administrator → Install Driver → Reboot (if asked).
Set up (VB-CABLE)
- Open Windows Settings (Win + i) → System → Sound.
- Under Output, select CABLE Input (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) and set it as Default - This routes the computer audio output to the VB cable input.
- Under Input, select CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) and set it as Default - This routes the computer audio output through the VB cable back to computer's virtual microphone input.
- As the computer audio output is routed away, you need this step so that you can hear the video like before: Control Panel → Sound → Recording tab → double-click CABLE Output → Listen tab → Check ✔ Listen to this device → choose your speakers/headphones → Apply.
- Close and re-open Chrome/Edge (or close tabs using the mic), open TalkPersona's live translator page, click Start Listen.
- Play your Twitch/YouTube/Netflix/Zoom/Discord audio—translation should appear in real time.
macOS (BlackHole – free)
Install once
- Install BlackHole (search: BlackHole audio driver) and follow its installer.
Set up (BlackHole)
- Open Audio MIDI Setup (Spotlight).
- Create a Multi-Output Device with BlackHole + your speakers/headphones (so you can hear audio).
- Set System Output to that Multi-Output Device.
- In System Settings → Sound → Input, select BlackHole as your input (the “mic”).
- Restart Chrome/Safari, open the translator, press Start Listen, then play your stream/video.
Troubleshooting
- No transcription? Ensure the virtual device is the default mic (Sound Input) before opening the translator page; allow mic in the browser (address-bar icon).
- Can’t hear the video? Enable Windows “Listen to this device” (Control Panel → Sound → Recording → CABLE Output → Properties → Listen) or use headphones / Multi-Output on macOS.
- Still picks up your voice instead of computer audio? Another app may be holding the mic; close Zoom/Meet/Discord mic inputs and all browsers, and reload the translator page.
- Mobile devices: iPhone/Android browsers can’t capture other apps’ audio this way—use a computer.
Revert / Uninstall
- Windows: set your real mic and real speaker back as default (Windows Settings → Sound → Input and Output). If desired, uninstall VB-CABLE (Control Panel → Programs) and reboot.
- macOS: set your usual input/output back; follow BlackHole’s uninstall steps if you wish.
